I love social media! Just like I loved alcohol. However, I choose not to fully participate in both

Yes, I love social media. In fact my dopamine hit tells me I love it.

I feel that once you decide to step away and have less distractions some people get little defensive about it. Something I have identified from when I quit drinking.

Social media can do MANY great things, such as connect you with new people, grow your business and even create a new life.

I have met sooo many people there and I am truly grateful

However, for me, I liken it to alcohol… it’s got some great qualities yet it needs a wide birth if you have an addictive personality or have been addicted to things. The reason I do not drink anymore.

I felt I needed to be on social media, I felt this is where I’d find ALL my clients

Yet, instead I have decided to just have a presence.

I find I start seeking validation and praise form others and not myself when I spend too much time there. Same happened when I drank too.

This is something I have to be aware of and if I want a healthy body and mindset, then validation needs to come from me.

While one of my clients came from social media (through a recommendation by some one I met in person)

The rest I have had the pleasure of meeting face to face through networking and word of mouth

So, when I chose not to participate

I chose to be different

When I chose not to drink alcohol

I chose to be different

It is OK to choose this, I do not tell people to come off it. I share what it may feel like if we use it differently. Yet, if you are like me and feel you are better without. That is your choice.

If you feel you spend need time away from their

If you feel you need to get more work done

If you feel, it is all a little too much

Again, it is your choice to step away

And it can be empowering!

I know for me, it’s been a life saver, a reconnector and a nudge to see people again

My brain takes time to process things and if you find it difficult to focus, find direction or clarity in anything your do then this below may help you understand why…

60,000 thoughts

Every day we get a quota of 60,000 thoughts. The eyes literally take in what you want to see. Imagine 200 different ways to run a business, 5000 different ways to eat, 8000 cats and 1000 dinners. The eyes are part of your brain and feed everything you see. And before we know it we are confused, procrastinating and not getting anything done. Why? Because the brain is trying to process what it has seen before it can your real ideas, goals and what truths you have.

Repeating patterns

Have you ever felt you are going around in circles with something? And are picking up where you left off every single time? Then it could be no longer working, even though it worked for other, we can try again and again to no avail. I liken this to exercise, diets and business. We had success with something in the past yet somehow we keep going back to it. Have you outgrown this method? Is it no longer fitting who you are? We may have another idea to try under all those thoughts, one we have been putting off for quite sometime. It is by sifting through other peoples ideas so we can finally get to our own and create the health and creative pursuits we have been always wanted.

You are good enough

With struggle and procrastination come fear of failing. This fear of failing is painful, yet it is the pinnacle to moving forward for growth. Maybe you need to get stuff done in a fast capacity. You need to space for the flow to come. If this brings feeling of not feeling good enough when you are more than good enough. Switching off allows you to step back, revaluate everything and action without distraction. Thus reaffirming, validating and show you that you can do it. And you were always good enough and (might I add) trust worthy to get things done.

And the narratives

At times we may feel alone, we may feel anxious not knowing whether we have done the right thing. Our survival mechanism, may be screaming to turn it back on. Everyone is there. And this is where we ‘should’ be. Yet, we may be reminded it is not the place for us through our physical body.

  • Third eye blockage, indicating over stimulation of the pineal gland which can feel like a cloudy head/headache.
  • Chest strain, indicating stress
  • Shoulder tension, from pressure build up

So, what do I do? And where do I go?

I choose to network in many places such as Mee and You Networking and spend time where there isn’t so much background noise. We schedule all blogs, vlogs, podcasts, any social media (as I mentioned, I have a presence) and we have moved the Mind and Body Collective membership to Tribe.co, because it is a place where you can choose what you see and where you are in control of your actions.

To end, less time on social media has enabled me to take my thoughts out of my head and get into the heart of what I really truly want. To write, to produce art and to coach my clients away from the noise. While increasing my knowledge and spending much quality time with my children.

Are you rethinking your social media usage? Or have you taken a break? Love to hear from you.

  10. Thanks for your post. I also feel that laptop computers have grown to be more and more popular nowadays, and now in many cases are the only kind of computer found in a household. The reason is that at the same time that they’re becoming more and more reasonably priced, their processing power keeps growing to the point where they are as powerful as desktop from just a few years ago.

  11. Hey there would you mind sharing which blog platform you’re using? I’m going to start my own blog soon but I’m having a tough time deciding between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your layout seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something completely unique. P.S Sorry for being off-topic but I had to ask!
