Embrace the Fear: How Stepping Outside Your Comfort Zone Fuels Growth and Success

Think of one thing today that scares the pants off you, yet you know it is beneficial for you too.

I remember watching Andrew Huberman speaking about how some things in our lives will be outside of our comfort zone, and it will not always feel comfortable but you have to keep going.

As an ex-PT (now the Nottingham Healer) some things will feel like a slog and a push. Not many people turn up to an exercise class (or PT session) and go… well that was super easy. Because it isn’t always. Expect to feel nervous and outside of your comfort zone of genius.

Many people who start a diet which lasts forever will do a lot of bartering from their mind at the beginning until it becomes ingrained.

That is when you realise mindset, belief work and embodiment work are great tools.

I want to say though… it is OKAY for things to be messy and hard.

Speaking to a few female leaders, who have done things that are messy and hard to come out the other end joyous and triumphant.

Expect the body to freeze, and the mind to do anything to get you out of it. To even spend ages sitting in your car psyching yourself up to do that thing.

I too am not unfamiliar with this premise either.

When someone plateaus in the exercise would, you have to shock your body with something different. It then thinks ‘shit’ what the f@ck is going on here, this is new and I may not like it.

Yet, this is what growth looks and feels like.

It is not unicorns and rainbows, but you can make it easier by looking after your body afterwards, treating her with love and respect. Also, a powerfully processing this with one of my services too.

Taking away alcohol, making a sales call, stopping your favourite snack, letting go of certain friends or even your phone can trigger this feeling.

Sometimes like many of you, we want to bypass that bit. We do not want to feel scared, nervous, or frozen yet, we know that this feeling is on the edge of excitement, expansion and confidence in business, with our health, and in our life. Of course, we want it to be easy, and some parts of our goals are easy and FEEL easy to reach, especially the smaller steps.

However, something that is perceived as being big can come as a shock to the system.

It is NATURAL to feel apprehension

Most actors also feel it when they go on stage experience.

It is NATURAL to also feel the excitement

Do not allow this feeling to put you off from taking action, do not let this feeling of pushback from your inner child hold you back. Speak to your child… we are going together, I have got you and we are still doing this.

Just like standing at the top of a high water slide. Not many people know it is going to be amazing, many will take a moment to contemplate it but do it ‘screaming’ all the way down. It is only when they get to the bottom that the feeling of adrenaline kicks in.

Yes, you can do that before. But, sometimes this feeling doesn’t kick in until that moment arrives. So, then what?

You turn away or you go for it.

Sometimes in life, our own kids are going to have to do things that they do not want to do for their own wellbeing… like pass their phone to their mother at bedtime because it is the best thing for their wellbeing. True story. Of course, they are not going to like it and they do fight you on every corner for it. But, when they start waking 1 whole hour early for school instead of 5 minutes before. You can see why it is beneficial for them.

That same, as you and your inner child.

When I danced in front of nearly a thousand people, my inner child (although she adored dancing) was freaked the f@ck out as I still did it, when I hosted events, ran my first 10 fitness classes (or any new ones), spoke on stage, trained as a PT doing Olympic lifts, took on my first client, when I attended various networking events, filmed a video on social media for the first time, spoke my story, went to an exercise class, went to uni… I have felt that feeling.

I got my confidence wings by going back and doing it again.

It shows me that I am NOT perfect. I am a beginner.

Can you make peace with being naive and being a beginner? Can you make peace with not knowing everything? Can you allow yourself to start from the beginning?

You do not have to train 7 days a week when you start out in the gym.

You just need to walk in that gym and do something, even if you walk on the treadmill.

I am starting various processes, just like you.

I am at the beginning of various journeys and I am not afraid to say that.

I do not know everything, I am here to learn.

Just like exercising your muscles, eating differently or creating a new sleep routine… you have to do it on repeat and allow your body to understand that this new process is… safe.

Eat… sleep… and, the rest… repeat.

Much love
Trina xx
